Mel’s birth story (Written by Rocky, Mels a little sketchy on the details!!!):
Contractions started at about 7pm on Thursday the 14th they were 5 minutes apart and about 30 seconds long but just felt like period pain. Mel then sat down to dinner with her parents and mentioned it as general conversation and went right on eating.
Wendy (Mel’s mum) urged Mel to call the hospital around 10pm when she started to get contractions every 3-4 mins. We arrived at hospital at 11pm on the 14th (we left home mainly to ease Wendy's mind). The midwife checked Mel and she was 3-4 cm dilated.
The next memorable events were throwing up the spanish omelets Mel had for dinner, this occurred at 1205am, 1am and 2am. Mel was very active in her labor moving around the room, squatting, showering and using the bath. By 3am the contractions were quite intense so Mel asked the midwife to check how far along she was, 9cm well on the way. It was around that time that Mel opted for the gas to take the edge off it all. 40 minutes later the midwife broke Mel’s waters.
Mel moved to the bath and it became apparent that she was ready to push, with the help of her loving husband Rocky the labor progressed slowly but smoothly. It took around 2 hours to get his whole body out this allowed Mel's body to adjust to his size. This meant no stitches were needed there were no tears only two small grazes.
Little baby Jet was born in the water, lifted onto his mummy's chest and found his way to her breast and attached. Together our little family lay in the water for 45 minutes, Rocky speechless and crying, Mel sore but very happy (and slightly high) and baby Jet screaming his lungs out.
We left hospital on the16/12/06 around 230pm our family of 2 is now a family of 3!
